Yeah, yeah, I know you hear me say that all the time (and, by the way, what about the photography?) Well, the photography is, of course, crucial – so much so that it’s a given really. If we couldn’t take lovely images then we wouldn’t have a business. But we can and so we have.

But, and here’s the thing, it’s the process of capturing the images that makes it the beautiful job that it is.

Of course, like all photographers, I do love a little Photoshop and I adore the finishing touches that can be brought to your images using it but, frankly, that’s not what makes this the coolest job in the world. Yup. It’s definitely you – our clients!

Which brings me neatly to this particular session with Jennifer and Isibel. We’ve photographed Jennifer before with Torston – yet another fantastic session I might add – and it’s a real joy that she’s come back with their daughter Isibel for one of our First Year’s Baby packages. A lovely gentle session and a beautiful baby of course! And with awesome hair like this, who couldn’t have pictures that they’d treasure for a lifetime?

Let us know what you think

Take care
Cheers
P.

Oh why can’t it always be like this? Hot hot hot! When the sun is shining like it was on this session, who can’t help grinning as they wend their way to work? Actually, to be honest, I grin most of the time but that’s not the point here.

In actual fact, the sun was so hot (and so unbelievably bright) that we had to work quite hard to find angles that didn’t involve squinting or deep shadows but that’s photographers for you – never satisfied.

This, for me, is family photography as it should be. Beautiful location, lovely family and – though I may be setting the bar a little high here for the UK – beautiful hot, sunny weather. A really lovely session that has produced some really beautiful images!

Let us know what you think,

The Bluebells aren’t with us for long – and this year they appeared like some girl-band diva at an after-show party. Which is, to say, late but (at least from an aesthetic viewpoint) well worth the wait!

For those with a good memory, you may remember we photographed this family back in the January snow so it was nice this time to have some colour!

Lovely session (the parents enjoyed a bottle of wine while we worked our way through the stunning woodland) and I think we have some really lovely, distinctive images.

Let us know what you think!

Take care
Cheers

And the sun has arrived!

This was the second of Shelley and Alex’s first year’s photography sessions and it was an absolutely lovely session. Olivia is that bit older and is just gorgeous – big blue eyes that she fixes on you – and the photos say it all.

Like all our First Year’s packages, this was photographed in Haddenham which continues to be one of our favourite locations. It has to be said, this is quite lucky given it’s where we live and work, but still.

I’ve utterly loved working with these guys ever since I first met them years ago to photograph their wedding. A truly beautiful wedding in Silverstone. And now look, we’re photographing them with the first baby who is rapidly growing up!

This is the second of their three sessions and already you can see how quickly Olivia has changed. By the time we finish the third session at the end of the year, she’ll be chatting up the boys and discussing the merits of X-Factor. Ah well, maybe I exaggerate just a little. Nonetheless, it’s going to be an absolutely beautiful set of images that, when they’re all put together, will truly capture the magic of that first year in any baby’s incredible life.

And how priceless is that?

Let us know what you think.

Take care
Cheers

I think I live a decidedly odd life. In the days before becoming a photographer, not once did I find myself lying in the middle of a particularly busy public footpath looking up at some very patient people who had stopped to ask for a business card. And, to be frank, I discovered that it’s actually surprisingly difficult to adopt a suitably business-like tone from down there when trying to explain what we do. Still, I’m glad they liked the look of what we were doing.

And – though I may well be biased here – they’d be right, too.

This was a really lovely shoot. These types of sessions are one of the things that I guess we’re best known for. Fun, energetic (ignoring the fact I spend much of my time lying on the floor) and relaxed family sessions. And they create the type of image I most love – natural images of your family that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Amelie and Jack were brilliant! And, yes, I did ache at the end of the session – some of it from laughter!

Ah, it may be a little premature, but it feels like the summer is going to be an absolute classic!

Let us know what you think (seriously – we do read every single comment!)

Cheers

So, it’s Easter. Chocolate and chilling. I love this break – it’s the point in the year where it really begins to feel like a summer is on its way.

I know, I know, I may be getting ahead of myself here: it doesn’t feel entirely summery just now with snow on the hills and a frost forecast for the morning but, ever since the clocks went forward (actually, I should be honest here – the clocks going forward always feels terrible with the loss of an hours sleep!), there’s definitely been a bit of a buzz in the air.

With more shoots booked than ever before (and some of the weddings we have in the diary are unbelievable!) this is already panning out to be our most exciting year ever!

Rachel and Leon’s wedding is one such wedding. We first photographed them a couple of years ago (in fact, some of their images were used to attain our first Master Photographers qualification) and we’ve been excited about shooting their wedding ever since! And this pre-wedding session with the two of them and their little girl, Lily, was utterly beautiful! Can’t wait

I love working in London. I think I love it more now than when I used to travel into the city every day. And I loved it then.

There’s always a sense of style, of drama. A kind of feeling of history everywhere you look. And it’s utterly fantastic. The only other city I’ve loved working in as much is New York. Only for us, London is on our doorstep which makes things a little more accessible than The Big Apple!

It’s going to be great this season as as we have a number of clients in our famous capital city so I’m going nipping in and out a lot!

This particular shoot is with a couple whose wedding we’re going to be photographing at The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. Now I’m always excited about our Crazy Bear weddings but with the added twist of working with a client in Greenwich, well, things couldn’t be better.

Greenwich park, like many of London’s vast green expanses, is simply fantastic to work in. Even with the world’s tourists – having seemingly broken into some kind of odd-ball clothing shop – amassing tera-pixel upon tera-pixel of self-portraits around you, the parks feel fresh and open – and quintessentially London. And with Canary Wharf and the Millenium Dome (or is that now the O2 Arena?) just in the distance you couldn’t feel closer to the vast metropolis.

I loved this shoot. Even in the pouring rain (have a look at some of the images!). It was a wonderful space to play. And, as is so often the case, the client – Nancy & Phil and their little boy, Oscar, were brilliant fun. A very very fine way to spend an afternoon in lovely company. Oh, and we captured some beautiful images too!

And, once we’d finished and packed the cameras away, we had the added benefit of nipping down the road to some of oldest (a.k.a. long-suffering) friends’ for bit of tea’n'cake. Had I not been driving, it would have been a beer. Or two. Still, pretty much a perfect end to a perfect day.

Ah, I’m sitting clearing up disks and backing up data. Not the most fun you can have but it’s absolutely critical (we had a disk fail a few weeks ago and, although we did indeed have everything we needed to recover the data, it was a nervous moment!)

It does have to be said that I’m pretty much as bad at cleaning up disks as I am cleaning up the desk around my Mac and printers – my biggest problem being I’ll find something interesting and immediately get distracted by it! Which is exactly what happened here – I was moving some files around and caught sight of these album files for Lucy & Steve.

Although most people probably associate albums with wedding photography, rather than lifestyle or fashion, we actually produce nearly as many lifestyle and family books. Why not? A lifestyle shoot does, after all, create a whole load of priceless images that are just as important, particularly if they’re from a family session, and will last a lifetime. And they look great in a beautiful album!

So here’s one from last year: Lucy, Steve & George. We photographed Lucy & Steve’s wedding so it was wonderful to see them again – particularly with the addition of George. We chose the location as the Mausoleum that rises high above West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. A stunning location! I loved this shoot and we have some truly gorgeous images of all three of them – particularly George who is a real character!

Just brilliant!

Cheers
P.

So, have you ever wondered what portrait photographers do when it snows? I don’t mean a little bit of snow, I mean when it really really snows.

That was what had happened that this particular shoot. It had been in a diary for a while to photograh Rebecca Foulkes and her family over at their farm near Thame in Oxfordshire. and, much to my excitement (and hopefully their’s too) it had snowed! OK, so for anyone reading this in, say, Washington at the moment, it may not be quite the same snow that you’re currently experiencing – but the few inches we had, happily brought the country to its knees.

Thankfully, it wasn’t too much of a problem to get over there (our trusty old Shogun has done us proud this winter) but keeping everyone warm enough to be photographed was an entirely different matter!

Still, snow is such a fantastic environment in which to photograph – particularly for portraits – as it creates an unbelievably natural wraparound light. Just look at the portraits below to see what I mean. And, given it’s unbelievably rare in this country, it makes these portraits even more unusual and special! Though watching out for shivering, streaming eyes and runny noses was also a necessity!

I loved this shoot and I love the photos we captured.

Let us know what you think.
