Unusually tonight, I’m posting a whole load of other people’s images. Excellent, interesting, exciting, beautiful, challenging, creative and alarmingly high quality images – and all created by young photographers aged between 6 and 18.

It has been a real privilege to be a judge for the Rotary Club competition – and a real challenge. The standard of the photography (and the volume of entries!) has been completely overwhelming and, if I’m honest, it was one of the toughest jobs I’ve done to help judge them.

So a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who took the time to enter or support the competition. Every single image submitted had real merit to it and each photographer should be hugely proud of the photographs they’ve created. For the winners a big ‘congratulations’ and to those who, this time at least, did not walk away with a prize – please try again next year as, on a different day, with different judges, you might just have made it.

Whatever happens, if this standard of photography in the UK can be continued, the state of the industry going forward will always be of the highest calibre!

And that can ONLY be a good thing!

Let us know what you think
Cheers
P.

Forgive me for blowing our own trumpet a just little, but last night turned out to be a particularly good day at the office (if that makes any sense.)

It was the Master Photographer’s Association Central Region Awards evening and our images – or rather images we’ve shot of and for our clients – did rather well.

We won the Under 5’s and Press/PR categories and we were runner-up in the Wedding category. In any of the regions this would be a good result but given some of the other big names in photography in our region this is an exceptional outcome.

I couldn’t be there as I had a long-standing appointment with clients that couldn’t be moved but Sarah was there and the feedback has been amazing.

So a huge thank you to all of you, our clients, who continue to ask us to produce images that not only look fantastic in frames and albums in your homes but also stand up as beautiful images in their own right. And the judges seem to agree!

Take care
Cheers
P.

Just a quick reminder to everyone who lives in the Haddenham/Thame area that the district Rotary Club Youth Photography Competition is in full swing (see attached poster.) Great prizes and a chance for your (or your offspring’s) handywork to be exhibited throughout the area.

If anyone needs an entry form, I can send one over to you. While we’re not part of the Rotary Club, we are backing this competition (I’m one of the judges!) to encourage kids in something I’m hugely passionate about (no, I don’t mean old single malts!)

Of course, when someone submits that superlative image that I absolutely wish I had taken, I may feel ever so slightly differently…!

I’m hugely honoured to asked to help to judge the images so they had better be good (and there are £300 worth of prizes so it’s well worth entering!)

The categories are as follows:

6-10 Years: Animals

11-14 Years: What makes your area special

15-18 Years: Travel

Deadline for the images is 12th June so get a form, grab a camera and go shoot that winning image!

This year, though, we were also presenting our work on Graphistudio’s stand – and we’ve had a fantastic time!

So, a huge ‘thank you’ to Graphistudio for asking us along (it’s a huge honour to be working with these guys – and their albums are simply stunning!) and to everyone who came and sat through our musings. We’ve had loads of really lovely comments so I hope everyone found it useful/amusing/entertaining/a good place to sleep*

For everyone who was there (and for anyone else who’s interested) we’re posting the two AV’s we used yesterday. I know the plasma wasn’t brilliant but hopefully it didn’t prove too much of a distraction.

I should point out that we have now licensed this website with the music guys at PRS/MCPS (I think they’re now called the Music Alliance) so that we can use and show our slideshows online. This is something that we couldn’t really do before so watch this space and hopefully we’ll get more of our slideshow content up here.

Cheers
P.

Graphistudio are the world’s largest album supplier (and they make the most beautiful books you can imagine!) so it’s a real honour to be asked along!

Given the number of wedding photographers presenting at the show, I thought I’d talk about something that’s close to my (and any other parent’s) heart: the art of photographing kids. We’ve titled it:

“Teens, toddlers, tykes and triptychs”: The business of photographing children.

This is the best job in the world which always makes it a joy to talk about so, as you might imagine, I’m really excited about it. We’ll be there on Tuesday 9th March so if you’re around pop in and say hello!

Hmmm, I now have the challenge of sitting down and writing something. Where’s that pen….?!

Well, we have finally finished it! Yes, after much (and I do mean, much) deliberation we have finally managed to get our 2010 portfolio book finished and out.

Having waded through thousands (I’m not kidding) of photographs, all of which we love, we have put together the images that we think best represent everything we are about. Some of the images we selected are there because they’re simply beautiful. Some of them are there because we had an amazing time working with that particular client – it’s an emotional thing. But all of them are there because they make us smile!

Hopefully, by the time you read this, the books will have made their way into our usual list of locations — Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, The Crazy Bear and Little Italy amongst others — and are already being excitedly thumbed through by both our existing clients and some new clients we haven’t yet had the privilege of meeting.

Even after all this time, I still get unbelievably excited when we publish our portfolios (and, later this month, we will be publishing an additional portfolio dedicated exclusively to our wedding photography!) I love seeing just how many amazing clients we’ve had over the past 12 months and how many beautiful images we’ve created with them. Every year I wonder how we going to do it again. Yet, every year, we still do. And I love it!

Have a flick through this digital preview and let us know what you think.

Here’s to another new and exciting 12 months of photography!

Ah, the joys of technology. Next it’ll be Twitter. If I can work out how to say everything in so few words
