Kidology Commercial Images

One of the nice things about the type of photography we specialise in is that we are equally in demand for commercial images as we are for portraits and wedding photography. Provided the images are around people of course!

This particular commercial brief is almost designed for us! Kidology is a new company specialising in all aspects of children – from the excitement (or anxiety) of maternity through to the challenges facing teenagers. As soon as their website is live I’ll get some more details onto the blog as it’s worth a read for any parent, but it’s a very cool idea and I can’t help but think it’ll be a huge success.

Anyway, given that a lot of our clients are families, you can understand why I was particularly excited about this session. We were commissioned, simply, to capture a range of children/teenager/family images for use on the website and in the PR material. We captured all of the images in Nether Winchenden on an absolutely stunning winter’s morning. Perfect light, great models, lovely client, brilliant session!

Have a look at the images and let us know what you think.

Cheers

Lifestyle Photography: The Garratt Family

It was cold. Oh, and wet.

But, as always, nothing should get in the way of a good photo. At least, that’s what we were hoping when we arrived and stepped out into a cold, blustery, drizzley and gloomy December’s Saturday morning in Thame. There’s nothing quite like assembling one of our large reflectors – a 6′ x 4′ frame that could work equally well as a small sail – in the wind but Kelly (our assistant) is an absolute pro and (so far at least) has never failed – or been blown away!

To be fair, it’s more about our clients than it is about us and, to this end, the Garratts were really easy to photograph and didn’t mind (or at least, didn’t say they minded) being out in the open on such a harsh wintery day! We photographed all of this in Thame down beside St Mary’s Church. This is a beautiful spot to work and provides a real mix of settings and backdrops, particularly along the disused road and bridge. That coupled with a really nice (and notably hardy!!) client and we have some beautiful images.

I don’t know why, but this session really lends itself to black & white – maybe I was picturing everything in my head for those really beautiful wintery shots or maybe the December light simply created those beautiful tones that a monochromatic picture accentuates. Either way, I particularly love the black & white shots we’ve captured. Beautiful. :)

Let us know what you think

Take care
Cheers

Jacqui & Family on Coombe Hill

I love winter shooting. I think there’s a real romanticised look to the images that is just lovely. Especially with kids.

This was one of those shoots. Beautiful.

Coombe Hill is a location where the light is often gorgeous but, on this occasion, it was even better than usual!

The boys were brilliant to photograph as they’re into everything and full of life (just the way boys should be if you ask me) and so it was a case of running to keep up for much of the shoot. I think that makes for really interesting images though even if I do ache at the end of the session!

The colours on this shoot are so vibrant that it seems a shame to use any of the images as black & whites so I’ve only converted a couple of them.

Becky & Family

OK, I admit it’s been a week or so since I’ve updated the blog. Things are busy here at the moment with the usual Christmas rush – that and the build-up of bookings for next year. All good. However, the blog has suffered as a result. Hopefully this week I’ll have a chance to get it up to date.

Anyway, to business.

This shoot was lovely! I’ve known (and have photographed) Becky and the girls for quite a few years now and they’re always fantastic to photograph – and this was no exception. Except this time, we were photographing the entire family! Just a lovely session. As you may have noticed, there’s little I enjoy more than being in great company with a camera.

The weather was just a tad unpredictable (frankly, that’s to put it mildly) – we arrived in rain, shot in rain, shot some more in sun and left in rain. bizarre. I know we must be a little single-minded, us photographers, but the ground was wet and the sun came out – so the light was utterly gorgeous!

The location was a rare and wonderful spot – Corpus Christi college in Oxford. We were forced by the cold and wet to photograph some of the images inside (sigh) but once the weather cleared a little and we could go play in the cloisters, it was just magic!

Let us know what you think.

Cheers
